Just flew there last weekend and its pretty nice over there.   That was my first flight after receiving my ppl.  Question for folks that dive, where are the abalones hiding?  On the south end of the strip there is a little cove, I didn't see any kelp so I doubt there are ab's there, but can people confirm?  I can see the kelp on the west side in the open ocean.. But unfortunetly for me, surf was 6-10ft @ 8sec so it was a little too rough to go in.  What are the avg sized abs there?

Andy - glad you setup a forum. I think this will be a really great tool for the club. As for the diving question, I don't know. We are also certified divers but have not been diving north of Catalina Island yet (AVX). My wife flew with a friend to Shelter Cove and posted her photos of the trip online. They took a DA20-C1 - http://www.flickr.com/photos/meagancantrell. I hear its an awesome trip!
