Biography
Hello and thank you for your interest in learning to fly and Advantage Aviation. My name is Justin Phillipson and I instruct full time here at Advantage.
As a kid my parents supported my obsession with aviation by bringing me to airshows throughout Northern California. I earned my private pilot's license in 2003 and about six months later I realized it was time to pursue aviation as a career. After getting my flight instructor ratings I started teaching full time in Northern California and operated my own flight instruction business for 6 years there. I moved to Florida in 2011 to fly T-6's but 9 months later I realized I missed teaching and the West Coast is where I belong. As a student you expect the best training for your money and after 4300hrs of teaching, I understand that teaching is not one dimension. Every student learns at a different pace and absorb information in different ways.
I am commercially rated in fixed wing land and sea both single and multi engine, glider and helicopter. I also am a rated aviation airframe and powerplant mechanic. With this diverse background I not only have a good sense of what you the student is doing, but also can explain to you what the aircraft is doing.
We have many airfields available to us in the Bay Area and I like to utilize most of them to keep the training not only fresh and exciting but also to learn by application and not just by repetition.
If your goals are larger than a Private License, I am able to teach you all the way through Airline Transport Pilot and Flight Instructor ratings also.
