Advantage Aviation Instructor Profile
Jay Levin - CFI, CFII, MEI, ATP
Biography
I'm a Daly City kid who grew up directly under the departure path of San Francisco Airport. At seven, I was hooked on the roar of the DC-6's and 7's as they passed right over me. I was sure they could see the kite I was flying. Later, as a teenager, I learned to fly at San Jose Municipal Airport and when I finished college, I joined the United States Air Force, attended officer training school and pilot training. Eventually, I became an instructor in C-141's.
After leaving the Air Force, I flew for several airlines, recently retiring as captain on the Boeing 767 with a major airline in San Francisco. In total, I have over 44 years of flying, 36 years of which was flying big jets worldwide.
I have since re-discovered how much I enjoy giving ground and flight instruction.
My style of pilot training is a composite of the training I received during my career. As a result, if you fly with me, the work we do together will combine the best elements of general aviation, military and airline techniques and procedures, even if you're just learning to fly small airplanes.
If you plan a career as a pilot, I'll work with you to design a plan that will allow you to move toward your goal as efficiently as possible. When we finish, you will be well prepared to transition to the next level. In addition, I maintain my contacts within the industry and am happy to continue to mentor and refer career-minded pilots, even after they finish their time with me.
If your goal is simply to learn to fly and have fun, that's great. I'd love to help make that happen. I have a very relaxed style that is guaranteed to make you to feel comfortable, learn at your own pace and above all, to have fun!
I am also available for IPC's, BFR's and the following checkouts: Mountain, High Altitude, High Performance, Complex and Glass.
