Avionics Upgrades - January 2009

Cirrus N517SW upgrades to Garmin WAAS capable 430Ws and adds Avidyne Release 6 and 7 upgrades

The EXP5000 Primary Flight Display (PFD), Release 6.0 adds such features as Flight Director capability, selectable "Wedge" or "flying W" aircraft symbol, V-Speed labels on the airspeed indicator, Heading Tick Marks on the artificial horizon and enhanced autopilot mode annunciations on the PFD. For the EX5000 Multi-Function Display (MFD), Release 6.0 expands the list of XM WX datalink weather products to include Terminal Area Forecasts (TAFs), Winds Aloft, Freezing Levels, NEXRAD Cell Movement, and Hail Alerts.

Avidyne Release 7 includes PFD WAAS annunciations and LPV guidance from a WAAS-equipped Garmin 430W GPS unit giving the pilot access to all WAAS instrument approach procedures. The Garmin GNS 430W comes with built-in WAAS navigation capabilities and is approved to fly LPV "glideslope" approaches without reference to ground-based navaids of any kind. The GNS 430W behaves like a high-end flight management system (FMS) and can automatically fly holding patterns, procedure turns and other position-critical IFR flight procedures.
